Rachel's Boudoir Experience | Nashville Boudoir Photographer
by Nashville Boudoir Photographer Caley King Newberry
When the world shut down in 2020, and we closed our door at the studio for three months, I sent out a form to some of my past clients and asked them to help me do a series sharing some of their stories and experiences. I posted exactly one of those before we reopened with overbooked schedules. As I’m trying to dust the blog off, I saw that and remembered that I have so many amazing stories sitting in my inbox and don’t want to keep them all to myself. So, here’s Rachel.
When Rachel came in for her session, she was visibly nervous and started off pretty quiet. When a client is in hair and makeup, I try to read and follow their energy. I ask questions to give them the opportunity to chat and get to know them better, but sometimes they just want to relax and be pampered.
Rachel started off quiet but came out of her shell pretty quickly, and I loved getting to know her! I’ll let her tell her story from here.
Tell us a little bit about your life.
I’m a mom of three boys, and I had my first the day after turning 19. I have always struggled with body images issues and not feeling good enough for my husband, even though he constantly tells me how much he loves both me and my body. I work in a male-dominated industry and have tried to fly under the radar to not provide unwanted comments. That, combined with being raised in church, I was always encouraged to stay covered. Those thoughts continued into my marriage.
What made you decide to do a boudoir session?
I’d been thinking about it, and a friend strongly encouraged me to ‘just do it.’ I will always want to change things about myself or my life, so I decided to embrace me, just like I am, here and now!
How did you feel going into your session?
I was nervous and anxious, but also a little bit excited.
What was your favorite part of your experience?
Seriously, all of it! I felt so beautiful and empowered from start to finish, even that night before seeing a single photo! Caley made me feel so at ease during the shoot. I enjoyed being made over and made ‘picture worthy beautiful’ by the make up artist.
How did you feel when you saw your images?
I was in AWE. Caley captured so many images that we just breathtaking. I was completely shocked at how pretty I am and left feeling empowered and beautiful
Did your photos reflect how you see yourself?
Yes, at least how I do now. I can give off a confident vibe, but deep down I struggle to have condense in myself. These images remind me of the confidence I give off and remind me to always remember that confidence.
